Dear observers of asteroids and satellites!

The CoLiTec team has developed the Lemur software, which is able to detect the moving space objects (asteroids/satellites) in a series of astronomical frames. We hope that an automation level of the image processing we offer will allow you to reduce the time for routine processing operations and concentrate on the question of “where to look” and not “how to process” – at least that was our goal.

Who would benefit from the Lemur software especially? If you are engaged in asteroid or satellite surveys on a regular basis and receive large volumes of astronomical frames that need to be processed quickly, the Lemur software can solve this problem in an automated mode.

Lemur’s main features (more details on Features page):

  • search for the new frames in specified folders – the data are sent for processing as soon as the telescope has formed these frames

  • brightness equalization of frames with a built-in filter – flat frames are not needed

  • detection and estimation of parameters of any types of images in a frame (circular/extended) at the low signal-to-noise ratios

  • astrometric and photometric reduction of frames

  • detection of the moving asteroids or satellites

  • identification of the detected asteroids or satellites with the MPC or NORAD catalogs

  • visual control of the detected objects, creation of reports

We have prepared a server where you can try to process your frames. Also, a set of test series (asteroid and satellite) has also been prepared, on which you can check and try the entire processing process.

How to use the Lemur service:

  • download and read the documentation (see Download page)

  • download the Lemur client (see Download page) – by downloading you agree with the Lemur License Agreement

  • download the demo series of frames (see Demo page) – please try to process demo series firstly to avoid issues with installation, connection, etc.

  • launch the Lemur Manager: select series of frames → select configuration file → start processing → wait for the successful finish of processing → download the processing result (see Manager user guide)

  • launch the frame viewer LookSky: open processing results → analyze detected objects and tracks → create the appropriate reports (see Lemur LookSky – User Guide)

  • launch the Config Manager: create your “own” configuration file → if there are no information about the focus length or pixel size in your frame’s header, you can add it to the configuration file to speed up the processing (see Lemur Config Manager – User Guide)

  • process you “own” series of frames

  • send us the feedback → it is important for us

General rules for processing using the Lemur service:

  • estimated processing time for one frame (3056 x 3056 pixels) is 15-30 seconds (if the focal length, pixel size, frame center coordinates are not specified, the processing time can be up to 20 minutes)

  • processing sequence is distributed evenly between different users (if many users work simultaneously, the processing time can be increased)

  • time for storing processing results on the server is at least 3 days (this is the time during which you can download the processing result)

  • maximum number of frames that can be processed per day is 500 frames (it can be extended by request)
